This forum needs more <3.

One thing I've never quite understood. The VR sensory-deprivation tanks the "Five" are in: are they unique to them, or is that how all the players play this game, and the "Five" are the only ones stuck inside? Are the people on this council players, or AI mobs? If Byron and Syr’Nj have a kid, will... will they have to plant it?

I don't think you understood my question, because that doesn't answer anything. If the first five people they put in the things won't come out, I highly doubt they decided to go ahead and sell them to the masses. The tech show guys mentioning no coverage of the "bubble" after its initial run kinda backs that up. So where is all the detail coming from regarding the people they're interacting with, or more importantly - as with the latest panel - aren't interacting with at all? Did they fix it and sell it anyway? Or is this the game's AI running?

There is no reason to think that other players are using that method since it worked so poorly. It seems unlikely that the councilors are players.

The bubble being a new experimental interface being tested by a selected group of players implies the existence of an old established interface being used by everyone else for the last seven years, no? So there are many other players, but we don't know which (if any) of the people the infamous five have met are player characters.

About the current meeting: it could be that at least one of the participants is a player, or it could be yet another thing happening outside Dedalus's control. Game worlds achieving independence from their creators has been done before, see e.g. Kevin J. Anderson's Gamearth trilogy. Virtual reality worlds going out of control has also been done before, as in Zelazny & Lindskold's Donnerjack.
