Newb question incoming!

Hi all i just read the comic today (June 25, 2012 - Chapter 17, Page 12) and i cant recall what a Varryn-Bearer is, i recall reading it in a older page, but i hope someone here remembers it better than me. so could you tell me? or was it one of those things that were never really answered?

Could be anything from "we're best friends forever now" to "if you rescue the princess, you have to marry her".

Oh OK. For a while there I thought that Syr'nj got Byron preggers like a seahorse and he didn't know.... yea I know weird idea, I also figures that the wood elves had a different mating method... oh wait I think the direct translation of Varryn-Bearer is betrothed.

That's probably as close as a single-word translation can get. When Syr'Nj first gives it to Byron, she's clearly very interested in him but not expecting a huge commitment right off the bat ("let me buy you an ale"). But anyone who keeps wearing the varryn for weeks or months is entering into a more committed phase. The tone with which Syr'Nj uses the term makes it clear she didn't hang it on him five minutes ago.
